Ice Ball Dimples Allow for Expansion
Cryogel Ice Balls are four inch (103 mm) diameter plastic spheres with 16 concave dimples in the surface of each ball. As water inside the ball freezes to form ice, the dimples flex out to allow for expansion. As everyone knows, water expands as it freezes. Without the dimples, the life of the balls would be diminished due to stretching and stressing of the plastic walls. The balls are constructed from a proprietary high density polyethylene polymer specifically chosen for long life in this application.
